After the Medical Council of India (MCI), another government-run education body is under the radar of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for corrupt practices. The alleged irregularities are reportedly being traced to the Dental Council of India (DCI) from where the Health Ministry and CBI have received complaints against procedures granting permission to private dental colleges for admissions.

Earlier this year, the CBI unearthed irregularities in the MCI where its president Ketan Desai was taking bribes from private colleges for granting recognition despite the institutes not fulfilling norms. The government has since dissolved the MCI.

Similar allegations have been levelled against the DCI, said a source. The CBI is looking into some complaints but an FIR is yet to be registered. A source said the complaints were being analysed to know about the irregularities. The Health Ministry, according to the source, is also carrying an investigation into the matter.

The charges, officials said, were that the DCI granted permission for admissions to several private colleges which did not meet the norms even as DCI's executive committee recommended rejection. They said four such colleges have been identified till now.
